Forgetful and Knit Corsham

Hey everybody!
... sorry. It has been a really busy two months personally. I haven't even really had a chance to crochet, let alone do any yarn bombs.
But! I am going to Vancouver over the weekend, so hopefully that will give me a chance to get some yarn bombing done there! I just love tagging in other cities.

And to do a brief catchup, does anyone remember when I was talking about Knit Corsham? It was around international yarnbombing day (I believe the event coincided, but went on for more days than just IYBD). Anyway, I never did show everyone what my piece that I sent them looked like.

See, I mailed this lovely coral reef bike rack cover all the way to the UK! I love doing yarn bombs around the world, because it is something that I have worked hard on being seen in a part of the world I have never been! (ok, I have been to Scotland and England, but I was very wee and obviously do not remember any of it) Apparently it was well received. That always makes me happy.

There were tons of pieces for the Knit Corsham festival. I suggest you google it or check out the various yarn forums if you wanna take a look at all the pictures.

It was so much fun. I keep thinking about organizing some sort of gran event where I ask for donations from people in the form of bombs, but I don't have the time between work and school. Hopefully some day I can! In the mean time, participating in events like this one are marvelous. Thanks goes out to Sandie Roach who got me involved in the project and special thanks to everyone who made the project happen.

International yarn bombing day 2012

Whew.

I don't know about any of you, but installing the largest yarn bomb I have ever done, was a lot of work.
Today, I set out to complete the best International Yarnbomb that I could think of.
I had a picnic!

And set up my picnic yarn bomb.

With yarn food and yarn drinks, my friends and I added real food and real drinks and had a wonderful picnic.

There was even boccie ball!
I installed vines of flowers around the gazebo the picnic table was under.

And in addition to the whole picnic spread, I yarn bombed two of the empty poles up by the road.

Some of you may recall this location from the Knotty by Nature yarn bomb, from their grand opening. It is part of why I came back to this location for International yarn bombing day. They are such a great crew over there.

Here is a picture of Brandy installing one of them. I wasn't tall enough to get it up there. I am so glad I have awesome friends!

To top it off, I added one little mushroom, alone in the grass beside our picnic.

I had so much fun! So many people came by and told me they loved it. Some even said I was an inspiration. My insides melted with that. This is why I yarn bomb. Because it genuinely makes people happy, interested, excited; all these positive wonderful emotions.

Ketchup from my phone

Today was a really good day.
So I decided to finally remember to download the pictures from my phone that I keep forgetting about.
Case in point:

This yarn bomb was done at the Time Colonist book sale while waiting in line to be let in. That was May 12th. Only about a month ago. Not too bad.

I took these photos about a month ago too.

Look like my dock ring isn't holding up very well down by the bay.

There is also a yarn bomb I did at a bus shelter trapped in my gf's phone. Some day we will master technology and get it out. In the mean time, I am crazy excited for International Yarn Bombing Day this Saturday, June 9! I hope you all get out there and yarn bomb something. Now is the perfect time!

Meet Sarah Kramer

Hey everybody!

I want you to meet a very awesome person, who has done a lot of awesome stuff in the name vegan.
Her name is Sarah Kramer, and here she is!

...wait... that's not right...
Here she is!

Ha ha.
In case you were wondering, that first picture in indeed Sarah too, or little Sarah as I have dubbed her.

I made little Sarah for Sarah Kramer because I love what she represents in my community.
In a lot of ways, what she represents for me, is chocolate.

-laughs- See, I wasn't a fan of chocolate (being lactose intolerant I wasn't so keen on milk chocolate) so finding vegan chocolate bars made of dark chocolate and awesomeness was a new start with me a chocolate. We're much better friends since this discovery.

But Sarah's place (down on Pandora by Solstice cafe, between government and wharf st) has tons of amazing products that you just have to see to believe.

And many are done my local crafters and artists. Sarah believes in supporting the community.
All in all, Sarah Kramer is awesome. And that's why she deserves a cute lil Sarah doll.

...guess next I will have to try making a fergus : )

More spider webs

I am loving this weather!
It's making me forget that I have to get ready for things like International Yarn Bombing Day.

It is however, getting me really good at making spider webs.

This one me and my friend Michelle installed on the walkway down to the beach.
What I love most about these pictures is being able to see the ocean in the background.

And then we installed this orange one on some drift wood over by the log that had the red and rainbow spider webs installed.

Together, that section of the beach is getting colorful.

And here's a little picture of Michelle with the tie that she crocheted after I taught her how to crochet. Hopefully, once she gets the hang of this thing called crochet, she will help me with yarn bombing! I've always wanted my own little yarn bombing crew.

Addicted to the beach

Today was beautiful.
The sun was shining. I could not stay in bed. So I convinced my gf to come down to the beach with me.
It was warm, and the slight breeze was nice instead of being overwhelming.
And I made a slew of spider webs to bomb on the beach.

We found this perfect location by these odd log that had metal hooks in it and metal rope wound around it.
And these odd grooves that allowed the webs to sit perfectly in.

First, I did this rainbow-esq one.

Try and imagine the kind of spider that this web came from.

Then I did a set of the red spider webs together. I like the look of more than one web in a space.

And lastly, a shot of both of them together.

I had a lot of fun at the beach today. I want all summer to be like this. Hot days, people in sundresses and yarn bombs on the beach.

I will leave you with an awe inspiring view of the ocean from the end of my road and the knowledge that I am about to go and enjoy my pizza cupcakes.

Spider webs down by the ocean

Spring rolling around again means I am much more likely to go to the beach.
And going to the beach means I am very likely to yarn bomb.

I'm not sure what it is that I love about yarn bombing the beach, but I very much do.
Yesterday's yarn bomb at the beach consisted of this lovely red spider web.

I wrestled for a couple days with making spider webs. I watched some youtube videos and asked someone who had made so amazing ones how they did it. A lot of that was confusing, but I think I have managed to get the hang of it.

This might not have been the best location for the spider web, but I really wanted to do a bomb while I was hanging out with my friend Daphne.

And this log stump was the best thing around.
It was super fun either way. I love learning a new skill set for crochet.
