Happy 2 year anniversary of yarnbombing! You have crabs!

Lawl.
So yes. As of today, I have been yarn bombing for 2 whole years. Since February 12th of 2010!
I honor of this momentous occasion, I did a little side project I have been meaning to do for weeks.

There is a statue out front of the Serious coffee in James bay, of a person riding a bike. My roommate commented that their head is vaguely spartan helmet like, so I have dubbed this the Spartan cyclist.
Anyway, they have a basket on their bike, so for whatever reason (I secretly blame Lex and Sabine) I decide to put crabs in her basket.

It is a pretty west coast concept I like to think.

There is a cute orange one,

Bluey greeny one,

And a lil yellow one.

The blue one and the orange one have labels attached to them. It is one of my more forward attempts at self promotion. It simply lists the urls for this blog and my tumblr one, and a thank you for enjoying my art.
Which I really hope everyone does, but I know some people don't like it.

Here's to 2012! And a wonderful start to my 3rd year of yarnbombing!

Let's go fishing!

My gf was on the bus today, listening to the bus driver describe the two routes that go into my neighborhood. She said the one goes to the thrifty's and the other goes by the fishing pole.
Now, when she told me this, I was stunned.
Especially since the fish got stolen new year eve.
But apparently I have created a landmark.
And the proof is in the writing. This isn't the first thing my gf has found that validates peoples love in the fishing pole. About a month ago she found this piece of paper shoved just inside the pole.

It reads as follows:
"This is a simple thank you. We appreciate the time you took to create this!"
I must say, I nearly died when she brought this back for me. The txt she sent me about it almost made me cry.
Anyway, with all that backing it up, I couldn't just leave the fishing line empty. We can blame the empty line for the last couple weeks on poor fishing, but today we caught something!

This lovely turquoise and yellow fish is now dangling happily from the line.

I have other ideas for fish and such that I can catch as well. We will have to see how it goes.

The rod itself has taken some damage as well. This is the first bomb I have gone out and had a hand in repairing, but in this case it's not so much as repairing as it is redoing. It's like reusing the tags people have destroyed.

If the rod doesn't hold up however, I will have to make a new one, because apparently this particular yarn bomb is enjoyed.

DAVIDsTEA gets Yarn Bombed!

I don't know about you, but I love tea.
Seriously, I have a caffeine problem. So finding tea was nice (as opposed to my energy drink addiction of which I am 2 years off of them! Whoo! or my Pepsi obsession... where I was drinking it even if I thought it didn't taste good) because it offered me caffeine in a variety of different ways, as well as offering me health benefits instead of detriments.
Enter DAVIDsTEA. My roommate and I were wandering around Hillside after class one day when we came upon a tea shop. Again, I love tea, so it was not hard for the lovely ladies behind the counter to lure me into the store. Once inside, I met Laura for the first time. She's the manager at the Hillside DAVIDsTEA location.

It's hard for me to know whether it was Laura's sunny disposition or the magnificent iced Happy Kombucha that she made for me that kept me coming back, but either way I love me some DAVIDsTEA.
In honor of my love of DAVIDsTEA (and Laura and her awesome staff!) I decided to create this yarn bomb flag.

(Those are the types of teas around the edge, in the order that they appear on the tea wall. Green is probably my favorite. How about you?)
And then last night, I tagged DAVIDsTEA.

I had to ask Laura for tape tho. I forgot mine. Remembered my camera at least.

Knotty by Nature welcoming bomb

So I went back to KBN today. The granny square pole was still up and it looked great in the daylight.
(on a side note, we rode our bikes, so this took us by the camo pole and it was still up!)

Even the door handle tag was still there, and a number of people really seemed to like them as they went into the store.
I met up with my wonder friend, and she gave me the swatches she said she would. My roommate and I then got to work stitching them together. Took about half an hour, but then we attached them to objects outside the store.

First up, the garbage can.
This was... a little smelly. But it was right beside the granny square pole, and there was not much outside their store.

I think it looks really awesome with its little band of color. The green and white square flag like thing is my favorite.

There are some interesting types of yarn/fabric that my friend has used in here. She makes little swatches to test out patterns and yarns. They end up being perfect for my sort of art.

Next I did this lovely drainpipe work. Sewing together work courtesy my roommate.

Followed by this small pole cover, because I wanted to show off Ryan's, one of the owners of Knotty by Nature, yarn bicycles by the light of day.

I think this turned out really well.
But I have learned something about yarn bombing from this project and the 21 days of yarn bombing that happened in November.
The big projects, the involving ones; those ones come across as the art they're intended to be.
So for 2012, I am looking forward to trying out more large, involving projects, and less small tags and swatches here and there.
I hope it sounds exciting!

New year of yarn bombing!

So this is year three.
Let's make this one full of awesome projects.

To start things off, I was asked by a wonderful woman if I would do a subversive yarn project to highlight the re-opening/moving of Knotty by Nature (she doesn't like the connotations surrounding the term "yarn bomb"... even yarn storm doesn't exactly sound pro yarn, so this is understandable).

Little side store on Knotty by Nature (henceforth KBN cause that is quite the thing to type each time).
They used to be located on government st, kind of downtown, a little more towards the industrial aspect of town, but located in the last little shop strip on government st that can still be called downtown.
Now, they have moved to Fairfield, which is not at all downtown. They also have propensity toward yarn covered bicycles.

Now, on to the yarn bomb! Or subversive art display that I created for KBN.

I made up about 25 granny squares for the project.
Of all the different colors I could think of and were easy to hand. I like ones that change color as you go along. They're probably my favorite (speaking of favorite yarns, Michael's was having a yarn boxing week sale and I CLEANED UP! It was so amazing! I got so much yarn for only $20!).

I also added buttons to it that have my URL... or at least sort of...

I also added a little something to their door handle. It was my gf's idea.

In this picture below, you can see the reflection says Knotty by Nature Fibre Arts. It's a very pretty store sign.

I am heading out there tomorrow to put up some more pieces.
I only have a couple granny sqaures left, but the wonderful woman who has inspired this project has offered up some pieces to help out the project. Maybe I can tag that garbage can...

Not exactly the North Pole

First off, Let Capt. Cook wish you all a happy Festive season!

Isn't that a lovely garter belt he's wearing?
It's yarn! With bells on! I did not do this excellent piece, but I sure as heck admire it!

Meanwhile, in my mad lab, I have been working on x-mas presents and understandably have been lax in the yarnbombing department. But I have big plans for January, and I was not going to let everyone go without a wonderful x-mas present.

Beginning to look a lot like x-mas

You may have noticed that I did not complete the 21 days of yarn bombing.
I gotta say, the way the weather and my health took a turn for the worse in that last week of 3, made it neigh impossible to get my yarn bomb on.
But in resting, I managed to make wonderful crafts for my first ever craft fair!
(well not first ever if you count the ones I helped my mom do when I was a kid, but those weren't handmade crafts like these)

This is a picture of my table!
Look at all the neat crafts! A lot of nice people had wonderful things to say about my crafts.
People said I was creative.
And a little weird. It all made me smile.

I hope I get to do more craft fairs in the future.
It was fun and I got to meet some great people. This one girl, who was helping her grandmother and selling cute candy cane reindeer was really into my sushi. She saved up her earnings all day to buy some, so I gave her a deal. She was a sweetheart and made my day.

Fifteenth of November: Day 15 of 21 days of Yarn bombing

Ok, this is a bit of a cheat, but it comes with an entertaining story.

Remember the bench wrap that I did on day 9?
Well it didn't last the day, let alone a couple hours, but a couple of days later, when my roommate and I were off to post the fishing pole bomb we walked past a tree in front of a house across the street from the bus stop and lo and behold, there in the tree was my tag!
It was perfectly fine, just... not where I bombed it. It was just laying over a branch.
So i picked it up and recycled it.

With this re-bomb!

I put it up at my school. So while this isn't super original, I like it anyway.
I am gonna keep plugging away at this 21 days!

Fourteenth of November: Day 14 of 21 days of Yarn bombing

Pretty much since day 1 of these 21 days of yarn bombing, I wanted to do something pretty big.
Or at least something interesting.
So while I was working on all these other tags, I was working on a major one in the background.

Fishing!

And it looks like I caught me a big one!
I installed my fishing pole tag on this particular pole and got the idea for this particular tag, because the pole is crooked. It reminded me of the angle that you would hold a fishing pole at.

I am very proud of this one. I molded the rings from wire, then wrapped them in yarn.
And the fishing line is wound around the reel there, and can tighten and loosen, lowering and reeling in the fish.

I had so much fun with this one! I hope everyone in my neighbourhood likes it too.

Thirteenth of November: Day 13 of 21 days of Yarn bombing

Hey everybody.
I did better today!
I went back to day 10's pole tag in the playground. I was very happy to still find it there.

And so I added more to it.

One day I would love to be able to keep coming back to a tag and add to it (like yarnattacks 21 days project), but for now I will settle for adding another pole tag above day 10s.

The flowers were also still on the fence.

I hope all the kids like them tomorrow when they go to school.

Twelfth of November: Day twelve of 21 days of Yarn bombing

I got super busy with work and travel and all kinds of things.
I didn't have the chance to do a real yarn bomb.

So I did this.
Sad, sad, bus stop bench tag.

Also, it is getting very cold outside.
I promise day 13 will be better.

Eleventh of November: day 11 of 21 days of yarn bombing

Happy 11/11/11!
And happy Rememberence/veterans/ just plain long weekend to everyone!

In celebration of not only 21 days of yarn bombing, but also Rememberence day, I went down to the legislative grounds for today's bomb.
At the edge of the legislature, there is a statue honoring those who have fallen in combat, but remain unidentified. The unknown solider.
Since it is 11/11/11, and not just any Nov. 11th, I made these 11 poppies, and placed them on the statue of the unknown solider.

They looked really beautiful amongst the wreaths.

I dedicate these poppies in memory of all the fallen soldiers.
I hope you all enjoy them.

Tenth of November: Day ten of 21 days of Yarn bombing

Hey! You're never going to believe this!
Not only are all of day 5 (except that one we already knew was missing) and day 6's flowers still at the school...

But someone added their own little poppy to the mix!
I'm really glad they a) liked the flowers and b) enough to add their own art to it.

Kids are great.
Anyway, on to day 10!
Ok, originally, I had big plans for today. Then city workers came along and fixed the pole I intended on tagging, so now I am with out a pole. -sigh-
I will keep my eye open, but likely I will end up bombing it outside these 21 days of awesome.

In the mean time, here is day 10's beautiful tag.

I went back to the playground that hosts the wonderful little flowers and did this pole cover on part of the structure.

I really hope the kids like this too.

Ninth of November: Day nine of 21 days of Yarn bombing

I got an early start on this one.
Which means I should have posted this sooner, but after poutine and watching D.E.B.s with my some new friends, I am getting around to it now.

This is at the bus stop by my house.

I didn't get many shots of it because people started showing up at the bus stop and I looked a little weird to have my cell camera out taking pictures of a yarn bombing.
And then the bus came soon after. I will have to see if it is still there tomorrow.
Until then, here is a cat with my Doorknoctopus on its head.

Eighth of November: Day eight of 21 days of Yarn bombing

Man, I am super tired.
I spent the day working on tags and projects for winter craft fairs.
I am beat!
And I didn't really leave the house today so...

It's a rainbow flower on a pole almost directly outside my house.
I was outside for maybe 5 minutes today.

I will try to do better for the rest of this week.

Seventh of November: Day seven of 21 day of Yarnbombing

It's raining.
I gotta tell you, raining makes it difficult to yarn bomb. Not impossible, just a little uncomfortable.
Anyway, I stopped by the playground on my way home from school.

I thought there would be more elements at the playground to bomb, but there was surprisingly little.

But I made do.

Either way, it is a miserable day outside.
I'm going to curl up on the couch and do some more prep for the rest of these 21 days of November.

Sixth of November: Day six of 21 day of Yarnbombing

I can't say I did anything super creative today.
I did exactly what I said I would do.

I added more flowers to the existing flowers, that I am very happy to say actually made it!
Or at least most of them.

I lost one of the day 5 flowers, but with the 6 I put up today, there are still a total of 13 flowers on that fence for the children to get all excited about tomorrow morning when they go to school.

I do not expect the flowers to survive that however.
I really hope the kids like the flowers.

Fifth of November: Day five of 21 day of Yarnbombing

Remember remember, the 5th of november!
Ok, now that I have that out of my system, here are some lovely flowers for you all.

My roommate and I went out into the dark of night and put these flowers on a fence at the local elementary school.

8 total, for no particular reason. It's just how many I picked out of the ones I had made.

I was thinking if they are still there for day 6, then I would just add more.

So, if any of you were wondering, here's a look back on how some of my tags are doing.

Remember the bolas's that I threw into the trees on campus?
Well here is a more recent shot of them. Ok, well July... so not recent, but they are still there. I see them all the time on my way to class.

And that's from back in January! Still there! Even if they are a little worn and faded.

Next we have the cover for the metal power box at the Gazebo. If you recall, this one was put up in May of 2010. This is what it looks like more recently.

The blue is still quiet blue, but the flowers have all come undone and it is constantly covered in pine needles from all the trees above it. It's not so pretty anymore, but I am so impressed with how long it has lasted.
And remember that it was originally covered in this. So wow for it lasting since 2010!

Remember the camo pole outside Beacon Hill park? It went up in August. And it is still there!

What surprises me is that it's in such an open area, and is still there. I mean, it's on Douglas street!
Granted, it's getting water logged, and the top is stretching and tearing, but it's still there!

Last but not least, all but one of my Beacon Hill fall tags are gone.

Only this one remains. Which is nice, cause it is one of the prettier ones.
So yeah. There is an update on what tags I know of that are still up and around in the world.
These make me so happy to come across in my day to day life.
I hope they make you smile too.

Fourth of November: Day 4 of 21 day of Yarnbombing

Hey everyone. Back again for day 4 of 21 days of yarnbombing.
So far everything is going well. I checked up on the spider and he is still hanging out outside, swinging care-free in the wind.
Today is my best friend/roommates birthday, so we went around town a lil bit.
I was feeling a bit better, so this worked out.
We picked up some David's Tea (awesome tea!) and then headed down to beacon hill park.
Before even entering the park, I tagged the dog sign.

Why?
Because it's before the park.. and why not? I dunno. I just have wanted to put one on this pole for awhile.
We always pass it on our way back from tacos in cook street village.

I had a lot of fun today.

Third of November: Day 3 of 21 day of Yarnbombing

k, so pretend I posted this yesterday.
Turns out I got really tired after posting these on Tumblr, Ravelry and Facebook, and forgot to post them here.

Ok, so Day 3!
I'll be honest. I am a little sick right now. So I did not put real effort into day 3's tag. I am hoping to do better by the weekend, but I just wasn't into it yesterday.
So I made this cute lil spider.

I hung it up outside my building. I really didn't leave the house yesterday ^^;
Parts of him glow!

Second of November: Day two of 21 day of Yarnbombing

Look everybody!
I did day 2!
I`m just proud of myself because I have migraine headaches rampaging through my brain and it was raining most of today... but I did it! I left the house and helped out my community while I was at it.

Ok, so turns out a good friend of mine, Shayne (who was also nice enough to take these photos and then post them to my facebook wall because my phone died and I didn't have my camera with me), has this good friend who owns a vintage store. They are the wonderful Sideshow Sam, and she runs Sam's Sideshow boutique. Anyway, she ran into some trouble with the 1% and reached out to the community for help. There is not a faster way to get me to help someone.
I will spend money I do not have to help businesses survive. I think independent businesses are the face of a community, the very soul of a city center.

While I was there spending money I don't have ( omg, I got the most amazing shirt and these great punk pants) I decided to add a little yarn bomb to Sam's front entrance. She got super excited by this, and I told her I would plug her store too, cause that is what yarn bombing is sorta about. Community and coming together and that sort of thing.

Today was a good day people... even if I am under the weather.
Let's cross our fingers for being back tomorrow!

First of November: Day one of 21 day of Yarnbombing

So I randomly stumbled across this project that Twilight taggers decided to put on.
It's 21 days of Yarn bombing. Starting November 1st and going till November 21st, Yarn artists are to go out and do a yarn bomb everyday!
I really hope that I can keep up with this wonderful new activity in the world of yarn bombing.
Anyway, here is day one!

This is a tree just outside Richmond house.

I hang out here a lot when I am at school. Probably spend more time here then in class.

Hopefully I can do more around campus.

Happy Halloween everybody!

I'm sorry about the quality of these photos.
There wasn't any street lights really, so my flash captured the tag, and some of the surrounding shrubbery, but no background.

Anyway, HAPPY HALLOWEEN!
You may not know this, but October 31st is my favorite day of the year.
Halloween is super fun.
Sadly, I did not get up to much this year.
I dressed up as Chell from Portal 2 (an awesome video game if you have no idea what I am talking about).
And I did this last Halloween tag.

My friends said that the pumpkin really set off the piece.

I like the bats.

And I kind of wish i could have figured out a way to make the ghosts glow, but it was rather last minute.

A different kind of jack o lantern

This morning, even though I was not exactly feeling the best, I ventured out into the world to do my pumpkin yarn bomb.
I went downtown, outside the video store where my roommate works.
There are these pillars that indicate the numbers for parking spots downtown, and they have these ball tops that I figured would be awesome to bomb.

So I made these adorable little pumpkin tops.
But you know what?
I made them just a little too small.
I blame running out of orange yarn, but either way, everyone who saw them says that they really liked them.

I hope they make it to Halloween.

Glow Ghosts for Halloween

Greetings!
Guess what time of year it is?!
That's right! The time of year when all our arms fall off from crocheting too much to get ready for x-mas and the cold season that is very much upon us.
True, but no. I am referring to my favorite would be holiday (although I do have a particular fondness for arbor day), HALLOWEEN.

Now, last year, I didn't do any specific bombs for Halloween. Honestly, I guess I didn't think about it until there just wasn't enough time to execute anything.
Could have also been midterms -shudders-.
Either way, I have plenty in store for this year. Starting with...

These wonderful ghosts!

I put these just out of reach (unless you are some of my taller friends, which unfortunately I could do little about) in a tree on campus on the 27th.
When I first threw them up all bolas style, they got all tangled in the branches... and did not look like a very good yarn bomb. I was disappointed.

Luckily, some girls I knew came along and one of them actually climbed the tree, fetched the ghosts, and helped me wrap them around a just out of reach branch.
I hope people notice them.
Especially since they glow in the dark!

Glow

Hey... hey people....
You are never gonna believe this.
I got glow in the dark yarn!
EEeeeeeee!
I got some from Bernats, and I also got some from Jelly yarns!
...I'm a little unsure on how to work with the Jelly yarns, but omg! It all glows! And it glows awesome!
Some glows pink, and some glows greenish, but mostly just glowing!
I will post some pictures soon! I can't quite right now, because I am in class and should be paying attention.
But all I can think is GLOW YARN!!!

I should have worn my YaBo, cause it is not summer anymore Part 2

It was actually really chill out today, despite the sunshine that lured me and my roommate to Beacon hill park.
Well, as I was last saying, I tagged the watermelon tag, the blue one by the Heron statue/sculpture, and the gnarly tree.
The gnarly tree was right beside one of Beacon hills lakes.
Making sure you don't accidentally stumble into the water is a handy dandy rail.
Guess what?

Yep. I tagged it.
I super like this one. The blue and pink go together like bubblegum.

Pole tags are some of my favorite simply because they are very sterile and cold in a beautiful landscape.

Beacon hill tries to mask it's poles by painting them green -smile-.

After that, my roommate and I road off towards home, but stopped first in a little clearing that had a bunch of trees growing interestingly. I chose a reasonably sized tree branch and tagged it.

This was originally meant for a rail at my schools campus where I studied during the summer, but I didn't finish it in time.

Either way I love the pattern. The red and purplish color is my favorite part of that yarn.

I hope you enjoyed how I spent my day as much as I enjoyed having it.
Well, maybe not as much... that would be weird.

I have been feeling a little down the last little while.
Probably just the end of summer and the start up of school, but either way, a little sad.
I thought I could pick myself up with a little Yarnbombing however.
My roommate encouraged me and we went out for a little bike ride, which included lunch at the best mexican taco place in town. Seriously. We always say that next time we'll try a burrito, but those taco's are so compelling.
Anyway, on the way back, we stopped in beacon hill park.
The first tag I put up is the one I have been dying to put up the most.
Because I think it's clever.

Do you get it?

Watermelon! See the black seeds? And the occasional white ones?
I hope you can at least see why I thought it was clever.

After that, we found this interesting heron statue/sculpture.

So I decided to tag near it. Hoping that people would see my art the same way they viewed this other piece of art.

We then moved deeper into the park, and found this twisted, gnarled old tree.
I really really liked it.
So I tagged it.

The tag I used was a bunch of scraps and ends from recent projects that was left on my table.

Wasn't much else to do with the pieces.

Besides, the scrapes are pretty now.

Getting ready for Halloween

I know I haven't been bombing lately.
Oh I have been making tags, and crochetting all kinds of wonderful things.
But not out tagging.
I told my roommate that I had to go out and do it soon. Cause I really really want to do more tags.

Either way, a lot of my recent work in the world of yarn craft has been with my new weekly yarn group, courtesy of my new friend Kryss.
Last night, after I realized I didn't bring foam stuffing for my sushi that I was crocheting, I decided to make a cute little ghosty for bombing.

I really do hope to make more like this and just get out bombing more in general.

Preparation

I have been working on a lot of anigurumis and hats lately.
It's all in preparation for the business fair thingy that is going to be at my school next week. It's a chance for me to show people in the real world some of the things I can make. So I have been making as many items as possible. All the random things I have wanted to make for the past year I have hacked out rather quickly.
I mostly made a whole bunch of burgers.
So I could show you something like this.

I wonder if I can make it even taller.
This has been my favorite thing to make as of late. I have to make up some bacon within the next couple of days. But I know I was surprised at how big a hit these have been with people.
I hope you guys think it's as cool as I do.

I have also been working on a new and improved version of the sushi bathroom roll.
I wanted to make it more 3D and just generally more flashy.

I think it worked out alright. I am super happy about the shrimp. The orange is supposed to be carrots, and the green I think I was going for celery, but others have called it cucumber. I think when I do it again, I will try for that look.
Anyway, I should probably be working on the things I need for wednesday.

I think I have an obsession

Bearded hats man. That is so where it is at.
I think I might have an obsession with making them.
That first white one was fun. My own personal attempt at free handing the beard. Couldn't really duplicate it though.

(here's a refresher pic in case you forgot what it looked like xD)

And then there was the green beard that went on that hat (and seems to have stayed on that hat... it just fit better on the hat). I had to buy a pattern for that. Not that I use it. It didn't really work for what I wanted, so I used it to learn some new stitch techniques.

There's also the one that I made for my friend Talon.

And the one I made for my friend Jen.

And now, now there is the best one yet.

I know it's not the best one out there. Believe me, I have been looking at all the one's out there.

Last days of summer

I hadn't had the oppurtunity to hang out with my friend Chelsea over the summer.
So when I found out that she was yet again in one of my psyc classes, we decided to hang out after. It being such a lovely wednesday afternoon, we decided to do said hanging at the beach.
Peeps, you will never believe this, but my dock ring was still there! Well over a week later! I was pleasently shocked.
Anyway, we hung out on a rock and watched the tide come in. Seiously, I need to go again when the tide is out, it's much cooler.

I decided to do up some rock bombs, and incidentally ended up teaching Chelsea to crochet.
All together it was a lot of fun.

Tall Tale Books little hero

So, some of you might remember that last august, there was a knit in at Tall Tale books.
I had so much fun, and I tagged the door for them.
Well, they had a bit of trouble a little while back.
And being a locally owned and operated business, they called on the community for help. Thankfully, the community answered resoundingly and helped save the wonderful local children's book store.
Anyway, I really like the place. It has a wonderful charm, and they were the first place that hosted a knit-in that I actually participated in.
It's also where my roommate first crocheted.
I decided, because they were such a wonderful part of my early crochet career, to crochet an amigurumi of their mascot!

She's a cute little doll.
Drew, one of the owners, looked really happy that I thought of them.

All in all, it has been a great experience.
I hope to have many more with the wonderful people at Tall Tale books.

Bike ride before school

Hey everybody!
So I went for a bike ride today. I am very exhausted. Very, very exhausted. And my bum hurts, but you don't need to hear about that.
Anyway, the thing I love most about bike rides is that I get to go to a lot of places I wouldn't normally go, and therefore, get to tag!
The first tag I did was on a dock, hidden away off swan lake. Wasn't that hidden away since we saw a couple people while we were there, but still.

The view was amazing, but the water was super gross looking.

Our ultimate destination was Mattick's farm, so we could play Mini golf (on a side note, I beat my roommate at both rounds of mini golf). If any of you remember from last year, and the last time that I went on a bike ride with my roommate, I did a hufflepuff tag on this woman's art display.
Well guess what? A year later and it is still there!

Here is an updated shot of the hufflepuff tag. It looks a little color faded, but wouldn't you be after a year in the rain, sun and sorta snow?

(I love the sign that reads that all her art is upcycled. I really wish I knew how she makes her stain glass... I also wish i had gotten some pictures of her stain glass...)

On the way back, I did a wonderful camo bike rack tag just off the lockside trail at Doris Page park.

I also took some artistic shots of the tag.

It was an awesome bike ride. I was out all day. Now I think I will go to bed.

Achievement completed: Tag ship dock ring!

Today was vaguely an homage day.
First, I was inspired by the works of knit the city. They just recently did a tree where they hung a bunch of octopus from the branches.

I love the googly eyes. I really do keep meaning to go pick some up. (photo credit goes to knitthecity)
I decided to make my own octopus and hang it for passerbyers to see.

I spent today down at the beach with one of my best friends. He's visiting, and today was his last day, so BEACH!
I love it down by the beach. I have already mentioned how I totally meant to spend more time there.
Anyway, I also did this lovely rock while we were watching the tide come in around us.
That's not really an homage such as it is my fav thing to do at the beach.

The next homage was the one that I have been wanting to do all summer!
A Ship dock ring! You know, those rusted out rings that are along coastal waters where they used to tie up something or other, I have no real clue. It is just always slightly awing to see things from the past right out in the open.
Leanne from yarnbombing.com did a ship dock ring. The photos are actually in the yarnbombing book.
But here, I will show you.

I wanted so very much to do something like that as well.
So today when we were out at ogden point and I saw one right there on the rocks, I just had to do it.
My good friend was nice enough and patient enough to sit there while I created the whole tag.
I then attached it and wahla!

I love it personally. I am so glad that I did this.
It feels good to achieve goals.

Fibrations

I grabbed the community newspaper out of the lobby in my building on the way home friday. I grabbed it because there was an interesting article on the front cover. There also happened to be a couple other interesting articles throughout the paper, including one on an up coming fibre festival called Fibrations.
The festival was today. I went about an hour into when it had started and I stayed for a couple hours.

There were a lot of great booths, and vendors, and people showing how to do things.
(this one woman was showing how to upcycle t-shirts to yarn, and she did it waaaaaaay better than any tutorial I have seen online)
I spent most of my time there following this one woman around though. She was teaching tunisian crochet. Once I learned how to do that, I think my brain exploded. Her name is Dela Wilkins. I met a lot of amazing people at the festival. A lot of ladies there -laugh-.
I also realized I need to use my Ravelry more. And the my social skills could use a little work.

Anyway, in honor of the fact that I was at a fibre festival, I decided to tag the tree that my bike was locked to for the duration of the festival.

I had so much fun!

Wasted Summer

Not even wasted in a good way.
This summer has been a bore. Sure, there were some good things, but I did not get out and do all the tagging that I wanted to. Especially with this being IYBD's first year, I thought I would get out there and do more.
Alas, school and work always take over, and the best I can do is make swatches in front of the tv after a 10 hr shift.
Anyways, this is mostly me whining about summer drawing to a close.
On to more important things, like the fact that I actually got out last night and did a yarn bomb!
Last time me and my roommate went to Beacon Hill Park, we saw a naked pole. I decided to devote some of my awesome new camo yarn to making this pole invisible!

What do you think?
I realize it's dark. perhaps I should ride back down to the park today and see if it is still there, and snag some day time shots.

Either way, I think it turned out nice. This was the first time I have done a whole pole, and not that little half pole over by my gf's mom's house.

Absent minded

I did the pole again.
It is such a lovely pole.
I am a huge fan of the camo swatch at the bottom. I think for the next pole cover, I may do it all in alternating camo colors.

Cause I do love me a pole cover. Even if they do keep coming off.

In other news, the person who did IYBD is doing something is August where everyone tags things with those little feet. I had been in the process of making some feet anyway, so I cannot wait.
Meanwhile, I want to go back to the beach.

Canada day!

Since Canada day was the only day both me and my roommate had off together, we decided to go for a bike ride along the beach.
I figured this would be a perfect opportunity to do some yarn bombing as well!
So we biked along and hung out at the beach. We saw these awesome rails that were worked over by the water. I decided to tag one. I love the way the metal looks after it's all rusted.

I did these rocks when we went down to a cove and watched everyone else play in the water. I really enjoy doing rocks like these.

And then, on our way back, I saw this absolutely picturesque view, so I decided to tag it. I like that it looks like a little rainbow.

All in all it was a great little bike ride. We spent the afternoon out in the sun, went to this amazing Mexican resturaunt, and had a great time.
The summer of yarnbombing continues!

Birthday and gifts

So I can't remember if I mentioned this or not, but I threw a yarn party for my birthday!
It was basically a cheap ploy to get more yarn, and guy what peeps? It worked!
Look at how much yarn people brought!

And I found it entertaining that I got two bundles of camo yarn. That's going to be fun to play with. And lots of my favorite, the kind that goes from one color to another and another and so on!

Anyway, in other news, I made up some Super Mario Brothers type things this week, cause this couple at work really likes the games (well, the guy more so than the girl, but I think the girl likes the cute yarn craft).
For Ben's birthday, I made him this green 1 up mushroom.

And then for our birthday dinner (the couple, myself and my roommate), I made them this Piranha Plant in tube, and this red mushroom.

It's been a lot of fun making them. I want to make mushrooms in all kinds of colors, but I also want to be true to what mushrooms there really are. Either way, they are fun to make.
Hopefully I will get to do more yarn bombing today on my bike ride.

Down by the Bay

Hey peeps!
You all recovered from IYBD?
I know I am still riding the high. Last night, after dinner with family, we all went to Beacon Hill Park to see if my tree tag was still up.
You know what??? It was! I was super happy. That's two weeks that it has been up and it's my biggest tag, so you can imagine how happy that makes me. I'm just peachy-thrilled!
Also, that post fungus I did in the park was still there too. And someone attached an earring to it! They added art to my art!

Anyway, that's ketchup on IYBD. The Bolas is the only other one from that day to survive... mostly I think cause it is on a power line.

So the other day, my gf and I went down to the beach. It was technically the first day of summer and besides being crazy windy, it was a nice day.
So we found a reasonably sheltered part of the beach and I went to work.
I picked out some of the best larger sized rocks I could find, and started covering them in yarn. I hope to do this all summer, and see if any of them survive between my trips down to the beach.
I did a green one.

And last but not least, I did a red one.

Also, do you guys remember the last time I went down to the beach to crochet?
Well the one on the stick is still there! It's a little worse for wear. It looks a little tugged on, and also has bird crap on it, but it is still there!

I am glad that some of my tags remain when I go back to look at them. I hope that same feeling makes other people happy too.

Would you beloeve that I am still sore from climbing that tree?
lol, I mostly think it was just being out and doing all the tags I did. But I am enjoying taking it easy this week and simply making nets to keep the birds off my balcony.
Anyway, Jill (my roommates mom) gave me the photos she took while she was following me around. I think they are really cool, a better perspective on me putting up the tags, and not just the finished product.

International yarn bombing day: The greatest bomb yet!

Leave it to International Yarn Bombing Day to get me to finally go out and bomb my super bomb.
See, I have been taking all the scrap pieces of yarn, all the failed projects, all of it, and adding it together and making a super tree wrap!

Ok, it was no where near the tree wraps that groups do, where the whole tree is covered, but I like to think it's pretty amazing since it's just me, and only a year.
This piece has the very first swatch I ever crocheted. It was what was supposed to be my first tag, but since I botched it, I became disparaged with it. It has a lot of cool things that have cool stories, just not cool enough to be their own tags.

But together, SUPER AWESOME YARN BOMB!

As I said to Alice, who accompanied me on my yarn bombing adventure ( and to whom this tag would not be possible because she hoisted me into the tree so I could tag it), for me, this tag is what it means to do yarn bombing.

International yarn bombing day: The morning!

So it has sucked to be at work all day and sneaking peeks at what has been going on around the world in yarn bombing.
And am so impressed with a lot of the things I have seen so far. I cannot wait to see everything once it is all collected.
Anyways, I want to share with you guys my IYBD experience.
On a side note, these are the pictures I took with my phone. My roommates mom followed me around and took pictures. She was really into it and wanted to be a part of my yarn bomb experience. I hope to get the pictures from her later.

First, I planted this lovely mushroom in the garden of this woman who lives near my house. Her garden always kinda makes my day when I am walking home. I hope she likes it.

After that, I tagged the bus stop. Mostly because my gf was waiting for the bus there at the time, but it does look nice.

Then I spent a good 15 minutes (or at least it felt like it. It was actually only 7, but still! 7!) throwing my bolas at the power line to get it up there.
I will have to up load a picture of the bolas close up sometime.

(I chose to put it there because of the two tennis balls on a string that are also up there)
Then I put another mushroom on the grounds of the ledgeslature, under a lovely tree.
I hate to say that I doubt this one lasted long tho.

I did another on these lights down in the inner harbor that look kinda like mushrooms.
A lot of people had positive comments about this one as they walked by as I was putting it up.

And then the grand finale, or the reason why my roommates mom had come along in the first place.
See, I had this grand plan to tag the statues with Katamari heads. (side note: In case you are unsure, Katamari Damacy is the awesomest videogame. I love it). I had The Prince's head for the man, and a Katamari ball for the girls head.

So I started and got them on. A couple tourists were enthralled and took pictures and asked my roommates mom what was going on.
Then the city grounds keeper guy came a long and started being a jerk.
He demanded that I cut those off, and told me I was defacing the statues and that I was disrespecting our soldiers.
You know, had he asked nice and not been a jerk, I probably would have just taken them down.
As it was, I left them on after he walked away.
I knew he would be right back to take them down, but it is the spirit of the thing, you know?

The best part of this story (yes, the guy did take them down. After my roommates mom left me so I could go to work and to meet up with her husband, who had been tailing us in his car the whole time lol, she went back and saw that he'd already removed them... less than 10 minutes... damn) is that after he took them off, my roommates dad, stole them out of the guys wheelbarrow while he was away!
So I still have them!
Hahaha! Yay for International Yarn bombing day!

International Yarn Bombing day!

It's here!!
The moment we have all been waiting for!
I spent my evening preparing for today and now, in the wee hours of morning before I go to work, I will be out bombing my mad bombs!
I am super excited. Not that I need an excuse to Bomb, but this seems to be exciting others as well.
Why, even my roommates parents want to come watch me yarn bomb!

I am also bringing my comp to work, so that I can upload my bomb photos asap to you guys!

Gift for a friend

Wow, drought to drowning.
Also, I think my camera might finally be dead. After many very fatal accidents, it finally succumbed.
Although, if I leave it alone long enough, it is possible that it may recover miraculously like last time.

Anyway, I thought I would show you guys the gift I made for my boss.

I think she'll like it. She really likes pirates and things.
I really hope that she does, mostly cause I am really proud of how it turned out.

June first is always one of my favorite days

Ketchup post!

So today, while I was downtown, I picked myself up an SD card for my phone so that I could get the pictures off of it. Yay!
So here's the set that I have wanted to show you guys for months.

Me and my gf were waiting for the bus one day and I used my lovely (at the time brand new) pink yarn with that slight orange twist in it to tag the bench at the bus stop.

Tada!
I knew it had mere moments to live, given the high traffic area it was located in.
But when I returned to that bus stop a couple of days later, this is what I found.

I must say, I was really quite surprised to find anything there.
So I decided to repair it, because I was yet again there waiting for the bus.

But alas, when I returned later that week, it was gone all together.
Who knows where lost yarn bombs go?
I'm so glad my phone really acts as a camera now xD

P.s.
Here's a little something I made for my bathroom. Not a yarn bomb, but entertaining none the less.

It's sushi! I call it the "Bathroom Roll".
I don't think it sounds very appetizing. I made this because, well I would normally just stick the extra roll under the sink, this bathroom is a little small and there's no room under the sink.
So sushi!

Summer never comes and a breath for the month of June

Wow. I know I have been gone for awhile, but let's just say entropy finally won over for chaos.
I had end of school/moving/two jobs/everything else.
But I did get some crocheting done in there as well!

Anyway, spring finally sorta broke on the island, so my friends and I went done to the beach (which is totally closer now) and I got the chance to do some yarn bombing!
I wanted to do more, but my one friend was being a downer. My gf on the other hand, collected rocks and shells and laid them out in her own display of art.

You can see them in this picture (you can see her leg too xD), as well as my beach anemone. But we'll get to that.
First off, we were walking along the path towards the beach, and I decided to tag a bench with this delightful scrape piece I have been working on in my free time during breaks and bus rides.

I really like the odd colors that I picked for it xD

After sitting on and tagging the bench, we headed down to the water.
I was looking for a nice secluded nook that we could hang out in and tag, but apparently everyone had that idea too... at least the hang out part.
I managed to do the beach anemone,

I am really impressed with myself making the stem all knobby and bent, so it really looks like a sea creature but on land.

I also managed to tag this piece of drift wood that looked like it needed a flag more than my strange fungus ring tag.

But I didn't have a flag.

Just this cute lil tag. It was a little stressful getting it on there. I didn't want to fall and my hands were full of tools. I had to get my buddy to help me. I think it turned out well in the end.

It may not have been the most fun, but I was super happy to get out and do some yarn bombing.
In fact, would be out doing more right now, if it wasn't so damn miserable outside today. I hope summer comes soon.

In the mean time, look forward to June.
I have exciting plans for International Yarn Bombing Day, June 11th, and I am also having a yarn themed birthday party this year, towards the end of June. So hopefully June being full of yarn makes up for a lack luster last couple of months.

Sock for the post

I have been busy with school for all of April.
So busy, that I haven't posted this awesome pic of my pole sock.

I did it a few weeks ago, while I was staying at my gf's house. There is this pole on the way to her house, sticking out of the shrubbery. I imagine it was a sign post at some point, but now it is just a hacked off metal pole sticking out of the ground, ruining the scene.
Or it was.
Now it is this marvelous pole covered in this pole sock!

What do you think?
For me, this screams the epitome of my yarn bombing. It's something cold and sterile from the urban world, and I tried my best to make it more decorative, bright and cheery.
I wasn't sure how to attach it to the pole at first. I knew that if I just slipped it over, it would be gone in a matter of moments. And there wasn't anything I could tie it to (I entertained the thought of tying it to the shrubbery around the base, but I figured that wasn't very nice to the plants). Then I came up with the brilliant idea to duct tape it to the pole.

I brought along my silver sharpie and wrote the following on the black duct tape (for the record, it's actually gorilla tape, which my roomate Alice says works better than duct tape. I dunno. I guess everything I have used duct tape on has worked out pretty well).
"This is Art, not garbage."

I would say the duct tape was a good call, cause it was there last time I check, which was 3 or 4 days after the bomb. That always makes me happy. To see them again.
My gf said someone pulled it up one day. It was stretched out and hanging floppy, but was still secure. No one seemed to want to peel back the tape.
She pushed it all back on for me. She's very sweet. And super supportive of my bombing.

I totally was gonna do another empty pole by my house. I had even started! But it got signed just today. Darn xD

Katamary Damacy do dee doo doo!

I tumbl.
I don't know if you guys know about Tumblr, but the first rule of Tumblr is that you don't talk about Tumblr.
XD
Anyways, I have a tumblr for my favorite videogame. But it's more than a video game to me. It is almost a way of life. A lot like crochet.
With that in mind, my friend suggested that I cross my favorite mediums.
Now, I have done that before. If you will recall both the Miso and Dipp amigurumi that I have done in the past. If not, here you go xD

But what my friend was suggesting was more. And actual yarn bombing of said Katamari thing instead of the coveting of said item that I normally do (come on! How can you not love little Miso! And Dipp was for my very best buddy Lex)

Now of course, since my friend suggested this Katamari crossover idea, I have had all kinds of ideas pop into my head. Hopefully I get the chance to explore all of them.

To start, we have what I like to call Prince on a fence.

My gf said that it looked scary, staring at her from up on the fence.

I am sad to say though, that while these pictures look awesome, they are all I have of this lovely bomb, as it did not stay up even 6 hours while I went to work.

I should start including a little note on my tags that says, "If you're gonna take this, at least do something useful with it," but I will never know either way and there is no point in worrying about what happens to it after I put it up.

Anyway, I liked it. It was good.

And I am glad that I got out and did a new tag.

Spring has sprung in the form of Toadstools!

This last week, the crocuses began blossoming all over. The front yard was full of the beautiful yellow, purple and white flowers.
They make me so happy to look at, so small and sprouting out from the grass.
I wanted to make something that would draw everyone's attention to the wonderful little flowers.
So slowly, one at a time, I pumped out these adorible little mushrooms!
It started with only one.

Then two, but by then it was getting dark, so you couldn't see flower or mushrooms really well.

Then the cute little would be Mario Mushroom XD

Then more! Lot's more (well, 7). Pink with black spots, yellow with black spots, dark green with orange spots, red with white spots, light green with orange spots, blue with white spots, and dark red.

All in all, I love them! They turned out really well for a spur of the moment project idea. The people I am staying with really love them and all kinds of people have been stopping to look at them or just generally smiling and pointing as they walk by. That makes me feel the best. I want to jump up and down and crow when that happens!

I bet they're all posionous too, what with those hideous spots. Except maybe the fuzzy red one. Then again, it is fuzzy.
And the crocuses!! Man, they are so pretty. Victoria rocks.

In 2009, Google posted a happy birthday link for Dr. Seuss.

My roommate received a calender from this cute girl in her class that lists interesting dates. One of them was Dr.Seuss's birthday.
And in my travels of flickr, I saw some interesting Dr. Seuss tributes.
So I decided, as a birthday gift to the man who created some of my favorite books to read ever, let alone when I was a child, I did my own little tribute.

Not quite

This isn't a yarnbomb.
The weather here has been miserable! I haven't wanted to leave my bed.
And school has eaten up all my time that I could have been crocheting.
So today, with the foot of snow that found it's way all over my doorstep preventing me from going about my day, I decided to try my hand amigurumi again.
I had been inspired previously on my google reader and at my local library my food amigurumi. So I decided to make a delicious looking Hamburger.

Notice the mustard and ketchup? XD
I am gonna pretend it's a veggie burger too.

The lettuce was fun to make. I almost thought of making a pickle for it as well, but I decided not to over complicate my first attempt.
Well, what do you think?

Not sure what I was thinking

It's sunday afternoon and I was thinking about yarn bombing. So I decided to go out and do one!
...
Only it's pouring rain.
Like, pouring pouring.

But I pursivered! I struck out, unbrella in hand.
And walked a few blocks to a park.
I found a tree, and put a large percentage of the flowers I had made all over the tree. I covered the whole front half of the low hanging limbs.
And then, soaked and cold, I went to take pictures of my handiwork.
...

Many Hyperbolic bolas

Hi!

This is Chelsey. She is wearing one of my bolas on her head.
That's not what it's for!
But it turns out that it might not work for what it is for anyways.

Me and my friend Alice went out and tried throwing two of my new bolases around. (the one that I posted last post is still in my room)
It was fun. I took out some branches, feared I would throw it into traffic, and generally got them all tangled up in branches.

Now the effect that I was going for was to wrap around a branch, much in the way a bolas swings around someones legs.
These pictures are of the two different bolases I have made (in addition to the one I showed last post)

(I like this one. It wrapped sorta good)

But whether it's because of the yarn or the rocks being to light, it didn't quite throw the way I had hoped. I couldn't quite get the momentum I needed, or the control.
Practice makes perfect. I will make more and see what happens. Either way, they are fun to make.

P.s. Here is my friend Emily trying to use my awesome Sword umbrella to see if you could knock out the first toss (which went wild and ended up as such) of my bolas I made. Seems like you can't XD

Hyperbolic Avestrucera Bolas

I have no idea where, and a friend of mine has suggested that I try practicing with it before I acctually try bombing it.
But I think it's awesome.

Friend: You can't do it over traffic.
Ok ok, I won't.
Friend: It's filled with rocks!
Yes, everybody, the center of these bad boys is a rock a piece. Then I did a hyperhoblic "fringe" as it were around the outside. I think it turned out rather well.

And look! Rainbows!
I then friendship bracleted the two hyperbolic rock balls together to form a bolas that I can throw, tagging this sweet piece some place outta reach.

Hyperbolic Crochet

ok guys, wow.
Just wow.
I don't know what to say other than that I am addicted to making hyperbolic crochet!
I have made three different "creations" since I started less than a week ago. I thought it would be something awesome to do while my gf was in Disneyland over xmas.
Turns out it is more than awesome, it is my favorite thing to crochet so far!
Check out this first one I did.

I sent it to one of my best friends for her birthday... which is like in 2 or three days.

And then I made one sorta like it, but denser. And three colors instead of 2. My buddy suggested I outline it in the orange. I agreed, and I think it looks great, but it ate the last of my orange XD

The last one, I was trying for something else. I got this instead.

I am not complaining though, because I think this one is my favorite so far.
The green really pops in real life, and I like that you can see both the blue and the purple underneath.

I was trying to make a whole rainbow. Maybe I can make it work on the next one.

Arrr matey, a beard!

Well, december has been yarnbombing slow because of the usual reasons. School, work, general apathy, winter commercial holiday, e.t.c.
On a personal note though, I got commisioned from a friend of mine to make a bearded hat that made him look vauguely piratey.
This is what came out of it.

I think it turned out rather well. Or at least better than the first one.
And do you see the skull and crossbones?

Felt. I gotta say, making symbols or attachables out of felt is pretty ingenious. Thanks internet for teaching me that one XD
I hope to make more. They make people happy and laughing when they see one. I also want to make other unique hats too.
But right now, Hyperbolic crochet has me completely captivated.

Pizza and Tagging: Tree, A follow up story

So if you remember to last April (if any of you were following me then) you will remember my series of Pizza and tagging. It was delicious btw.
Anyway, my mother was in town last week and I showed her some of my tags that were still in town.
Do you guys remember the Kelsey one from summer? Well it was still up! Until about two days after I showed my mom. Then it came down. Odd timing XD

Anyway, the longest standing tag award goes to the lovely one I did on the tree in front of the cool people's house.
Here is an updated shot of how it looks now after almost a year of rain, and dirt and exhaust cause they really need to do something about the traffic on that road.

Oh my Victoria, you what you have done now

I wish this was me.

But alas, this was not me.
In light of the fact that this was not me, I would really really like to know who did do this.

I mean, it's almost in front of the yarn store The beehive, or busy bee... something like that.
And it is also infront of the queer thift store, Out of the Closet. Two groups I believe to be really into knitting and crochetting.
So, I don't know who did these amazing trees, but let me tell you, I am jealous of these people in the best way possible.

Thank you whoever did this, for making Victoria, B.C. a better, brighter place to live.

Boredom

So, often times, when I am waiting for something, like a class or the bus, I have taken to making my lil flowers.
(I have to take a break tomorrow for a special secret project that only happens tomorrow)
Anyway, the other day while waiting for class to start, I decided to tag the classroom with the flower I had just made.

I simple thing. I mean to check on friday whether or not it is still there. Given the understaffing of my college, I imagine that is a possability.

Little Flower Bombs: My Trip to Van part SKYTRAIN!

Ok, well, there wasn't actually really that much more to my trip.
Well, actually there was tons more to my trip, but not really any more bombing XD
This was my first time on the skytrain, so I was super excited. And it seems really high tech. Or at least more high tech than the LRT in Edmonton.

So I tagged it. Because I could!
Also, Harry potter broom!

Ok, so it is not a yarnbomb (although I did seriously think about tagging them, if I had had the time) but it is a neat graffiti. Someone put at least 5 (that's how many different ones I saw, but there could be more) different broom sticks, chained to bike racks (as if they had rode them there XD) around downtown Vancouver.

Little Flower Bombs: My Trip to Van part 2

After the ferry, I had to wait for Steve. Steve moved to van 6 months back and was gonna play tourguide for me and Sabine.
While I waited, I tagged the ferry sign!

And the bench, but that was because the brown got all tangled and I had to cut a section out and I didn't know what to do with the section that was tangled XD

After a while, Steve came and we went to pick up Sabine from the airport. I tried tagging things along the way, but they were eager, and buses did keep coming really quick for us XD
So I didn't get to do another tag until way later in the day, when Sabine and I were just out walking around, scoping vancouver.

It was... I dunno, the rail? The flowers? I am not sure what drew me in. But the fact that it matched Sabine, and there was so much accidental blue and purple, makes me love this particular bomb so much.

It helps that my wonderful Sabine is in the bomb. It was a great lil flower tag. Up next: Skytrain!

Little Flower Bombs: My Trip to Van part 1

Ok, so perhaps quarter after 12 at night is really the best time to be blogging about my yarn adventures, but heck, why not. I cannot sleep anyways.
So in the middle of the week, as kind of a reading-break-that-we-don't-actually-get-in-college, I went across the water to Vancouver. My friend Sabine was there for a show, so I got to see her too.
But I am getting ahead of myself.
First and formost, I had to get myself on a ferry. I was a little scared, as I had never done such a thing before. But my gf walked me through it, and I made it on ok.
Then I got excited and started tagging XD
I whipped out a couple flowers to put around the boat. The best idea I came up with was to put them on the railings. So I went out the starboard side (-giggle- is that left?) and put up this cute little number.

Then I went around the other side and put up this one by a lovely lifesaving device.

It doesn't seem to take me any time at all to produce the cute little flowers. It seems I can make one in around 15 minutes.

Makes leaving them everywhere highly enjoyable.
Although I kind of want to spend an afternoon in a tree just crocheting the flowers directly to it XD

I may have gone a little mad

I wanted a task that would use up all my little balls of ends.
At first, I thought of making a bunch of little squares and stitching them all together in various shapes and sizes. Making little patchwork quilts for trees or rural objects.
But I thought coming up with something that forced me to learn a new skill sounded like a better plan.
So I went to youtube and I looked for a video to teach me how to crochet a flower. I found This lovely video and set out to make them.

And then I went a little mad.

so far, 22 "flowers" worth of mad. But by the time you read this, I cannot say how many flowers worth of mad it may be. Also, I say "flowers" cause if you'll see, this one looks a heck of a lot like coral.

At least a lot more like coral than like a flower.
Let's just say I took her pattern and ran with it.
I don't want to stop making them though. I actually bought more ends for next to nothing because I wanted to make even MOAR colorful flowers. XD
This is very entertaining I must say. I want a whole bunch of them. So when I bomb them, it will truly be something to see.

Back in the swing of things

Sure enough, just as soon as comment on not doing any yarnbombing, I get out and go yarnbombing.
Yay!
My friend and I rode our bikes to what the map said was "Knockan Hill Park". I have no idea what I thought it was going to be like, but I know that I was shocked by what it was.

It was a hill. It was pretty much rocks and trees and that was it. Moving my bike up it while caring 2 litres of liquid is not cool.
Anyway, I ended up tagging a tree with this lovely.

I'm hoping to spit out some Halloween ones here pretty soon. I like theme ones and hopefully if I a) make them soon enough and b) get them out soon enough, hopefully they can stick around for Halloween and make everyone happy XD

P.S. i wish glow sticks lasted longer...

Not really a bomb...

Ok, I'll admit.
I have been distracted.
And it's not even by school!
A couple on months back, when I was enamoured with both etsy and yarnbombing, I stumbled across those bearded beanies.
I wondered if I could make myself one.
Well it turns out that I can! It was only a prototype, but it turned out surprisingly well. ( My roomate said it made me look like a homeless person)

And I learned a couple things about crochet.
And about myself.
I learned that I could make just about anything if I set my mind to it. With nothing but a crochet hook, yarn and imagination (ok, and possibly stuffing of some kind : D)
So after that, I was interested to try my hand at Amigurumi. I had seen someone make my beloved favorite videogame character Miso from Katamari (which I posted on my tumblr for Katamari http://katamaridamacy.tumblr.com/ ) so I thought I would give it a whirl.
It surprisingly turned out really well!

Again, for not following any kind of pattern, just going with how it was turning out and the basic skills I have.
So after the success of both those projects I wanted to try something a little more ambitious.
You remember my friends helmet? The one I put on the statue? The one with the broom on top? : D
I wanted a hat like that. A hat like a roman helmet.
Check it out!

It worked!
A couple people have said that I should make the fringe higher, more pronounced.
What do you think?
I also made a lance.

It... kinda... goes with the helmet. If I was to be completely true to the lance, I would try my hand at making a knights helmet, but that I do believe will be really hard. I do keep rolling the idea around inside my head either way.
Anyways, I realize this is not yarn bombing. I really do want to bomb some more ( and I even have some tags ready to go) but I have been distracted by these wonderful hats XD
Next I am trying a samurai helmet/hat. My broom helmeted friend doesn't think it's possible. I'll show him.

Here's Roy.
Good ol Roy hangs out on the bridge to Mattick's farm.
While on our bike ride, we stopped to take a break (and yarn bomb my spine tag!) by dear old Roy and decided to have an improptue photo shoot.

Roy's never looked better in my friends fetching Marvin the Martian style helmet ( or as drunk people around town like to yell, Spartan!!) and the Hufflepuff tag/scarf I made in tribute to my girlfriend.

That's also my friends incredibly pimpin Townie that he just picked up. Roy looks like he would love to go for a ride XD

Beacon hill Tree earrings

I wanted to do a fancy, lacey tag for my friends fantastic new bike.
But needless to say, I don't know how XD
I will keep trying at it, but my attempt fell somewhat short of what I was hoping to do.
So instead of being upset that it didn't work out, I attached them to a tree in beacon hill park.

I think they are a subtle contribution to the loveliness that is the park. So subtle you can barely see them.

I love being there, with all the ponds, and ducks, and geese, and peacocks and squirrels XD
I hope they all enjoy my lil tag.
Today was just such an awesome day.

Bike ride to Mattick's farm: Spine

For a long time now, I have had this piece complete that I have called "the spine".
I really like it because I have this odd fascination with bones.
Anyway, I could never find a good enough spot for this tag, taking it out with me on over a dozen different tagging outings and just never putting it up.

Finally, today!
I found the perfect spot for it, just up enough that you would have to go out of your way to claim this lovely yarn bomb.

As I was taking picture of it, a woman stopped on her bike and asked me if I had made the tag. Grudgingly, I acknowledged my part in its creation. I was happy that she complimented it and said that it was something she wanted to get into, but it was a lot of work to just give it away. I told her about my efforts in Buddhist non attachment, and all in all it was lovely conversation about one of my favorite yarn bombs to date!

Bike ride to Mattick's farm: Contribution piece

Today, my friend and I went on a bike ride to Mattick's farm. It's a neat little place with some shops, a wonderful country style grocery store, and a miniature golf course (or two 18 hole courses to be exact). Our interest this time round was in the mini golf, as it is one of my favorite past times.
Long story short, I beat my friend XD
On our way there however, I stopped to put up a couple tags.
When we first went on this bike ride, we passed a house that had all this stuff by the side of the road. Art stuff. Gnomes, painted rocks, glass works. All kind of art stuff creating this side of the road display. It even had a radio playing music that you could listen to as you went by.
I loved it.
So like Rico's Fan-Ta-Sea Isle, I really wanted to add to it.

Thus, I contributed my Hufflepuff tag to this lovely woman's art display.
There was even a marker and a lil book that you could write stuff in. So I wrote about how awesome her thing was, left my blog addy, and went on my merry lil way.

We played our golf, and then as we were heading back, I noticed that the display looked different. There was more art, and oddly enough there was something hanging from my tag.

I went closer to look and realized that the lady's whose house this was at had added the tag, along with some other art.

It was super touching to be able to work with this woman, even anonymously.

What a marvelous day!

Bridge Protection

I have recently gotten in the habit of tagging my friends bikes.
They like it, I like it, brings attention to yarn, so it's win/win for everyone.

But I have been having trouble with one friends bike. He has a lot going on with it already, so there isn't really a place for me to easily place a tag.
I did come up with an idea though: To put a shield on the front of his bike, like a knight jousting (but bicycle instead of noble steed XD).

It didn't fly though. I should also mention that my friend has a broom on top of his helmet, emulating the Marvin the martian style. It was slightly thematic, but he said it was all too bold. -Pfft-

Anyway, the shield that I made for his bike, ended up being the lovely centerpiece for this bridge, over looking Victoria's lovely *coughshittycough* new Uptown complex. Bah.

My Bike Tag

When my bus pass ran out for summer, I realized I would have to transport myself somehow.
I had a couple run down broken bikes that were more frames and rusted metal/broken rubber than anything else, so I didn't have a working bike.
Buddy of mine lent me the use of his old bike though and here it is, in all its tagged up glory XD

I like it XD

I finally have a bike that has a milk crate on it. I have always wanted that.

Tall Tales Books Knit In

While I was perusing my Google Reader one afternoon early August, I came upon an entry from Yarnbombing.com talking about a knit in event happening right here in my town! (http://yarnbombing.com/fancy-fences)

Of course, I was super excited and counting down the days.
The day of, I packed over half of my yarn into my knapsack (along with a couple tags, just in case), and all my hooks XD
Then biked down to Tall Tales Books on Fort st, Victoria BC

It was a wonderful little sit in event, with cookies, and those bite size brownies (which I totally love) and Tea. I had the blueberry tea, which was fabulous XD
I brought a friend of mine along too, because I thought it would be fun. I taught them how to crochet and helped them along with it. We listened to the women talk about things in their lives and it made me realize I really aught to join some sort of knitting group.

I was working on a tag for my bike while we were all sitting there (which I will put in the next post) and one of the ladies asked me what I was doing. I told her it was a tag for my bike. She then asked, what a tag was, so I explained Yarnbombing.
One of the other ladies asked me how I got involved with Yarnbombing and I explained about the Yarnbombing book. She then proceeded to tell me that she knew Leanne, one of the authors of the Yarnbombing book! I was so thrilled, and then to make me even more thrilled, she asked me if I would tag the front of her store.

I think I nearly died on the spot.

The really entertaining part was the yarnbombing site said in it's entry that there might be yarnbombing at the event. I just didn't know it would be mine.

Thanks again to those lovely ladies at Tall Tales Books, and to the awesome creators of the Yarnbombing book that got me into the spectacular hobby <3

Tribute: Hufflepuff style

My girlfriend is really into Harry Potter.
Can't really blame her. They are rather fantastic books, and a wonderful world that woman created.
Anyways, she is a Hufflepuff.

She even has the whole hufflepuff student outfit (including wand) and dresses in it every halloween and HP movie opening

In honor of her love for Hufflepuff (and so she could have something to post on her blog http://effyeahhufflepuff.tumblr.com/) I did this tag on her bike.

Pretty snazzy bike too if I do say so. I am jealous.

Although mine does have this handy milk crate.
I want to do more bike tags. Maybe even cover a whole bike.
But not this bike. This bike is too nice to cover all up.

Fear

I fear that Yarnbombing is going the way of the dinosaur.
Not for me! I mean, I am still really keen on doing it. Everyday I come up with new ideas that I want to try out, and will hopefully do so in the near future.
Not to mention the tags I do have finished that simply need to go up.
But I do feel as though the knitting/crocheting community at large has gone on to express themselves with Yarn in another way. Not quite sure what this other way is yet, but I have stopped seeing all the wonderful tags on people's blogs and whatnot.
If I am mistaken, please, someone let me know.
I don't want to believe one of my favorite hobbies is dying XD

Rainbow fishies!

This was originally supposed to be for my gay friend David.
I was gonna put it at his bus stop.
But honestly? At 11:00pm I didn't want walk 3 blocks there, and then 3 block back, when I had to walk form 20 minutes home anyways.

Either way, I did put it between his house and my gf's house! So he'll pass it and I will as well.

I think it was a brilliant compromise.

My friend David really likes fish.

A lot of people in my life right now like fish. Roomate, guy who lives down stairs, David.
I think I did an ok job of portraying fish.

This is the last of the rainbow yarn I got from my friend at the pride lounge. There may be more rainbows in the future, but none as matching as these ones I imagine.

Flowers in the summertime

So I'm finally getting around to putting up some of the pieces that I have had finished for a couple a weeks.
I know I should get out more, but I have many projects on the go XD

I really like the flowers in this!

It took me a while to get the hang of making the cute little flowers, and I'll admit that I totally improvised the leaves. In the end, the vine (which was just me crocheting it to itself over and over again) was probably the hardest part. If I do this again (which I would really like to) I will have to find a better way of making a vine.

I am so open to suggestions if anyone knows a better way to make a vine.

I wanted to place it on something metal, so that it had more life and beauty.

I think it did that XD

So... I'm a little late on this one.

Granted, I had it stiched up and ready to go on the 10th (which was Kelsey's birthday), but alas, it did not hit the urban land scape until today.

I asked her (being very poor) if there was something I could do for her for her birthday, since she is my roomate and all and it's not nice to ignore people's birthdays. She asked if I would do a tag for her.

I was eager, nay excited and this prospect.

So I got to work, whipped out this lovely baby blanket esq background and then threw Kelsey's name on it!

I hope she really likes it. You can kind of see it from our bedrooms in the house, as it is in the park across the street. She's at work right now, so she'll see it when she comes home.

Super Tree

Don't mind me.
I may be slightly intoxicated while writing this. That's ok. I was mostly intoxicated while finishing up this tag today anyways.
Today, my two friends and I went and hung out in the park to celebrate the fact that I had my final today. Whoo! No more biology... for now anyways.

While we were hanging out, I finished up my tag, found a perfect tree and placed said tag.

As soon as it was up, both my friends were like "super tree".

I too thought it was fitting.
They asked me why I decided to put it on that particular tree in that particular location. I said it was the best tree around that fit. The others were either too big or too small. My one friend said that it was serendipitous. I like that it can be seen from the various paths, yet is hidden in the trees to a large extent.

Sorry for the lack of posts as of late. It has been a busy month.
This monday is my birthday, so I don't know when the next time I will tag is.
But at least I have a couple new pieces finished to put up.
... I just have to put them out in the world...

Lovely June

Ok, I apoligize.
I have been crocheting again, but I have been sooo busy. Spring semester is a lot of my time, as well as being employed. If only I lived in one of those nomadic egalitarian societies that would let me just sit around and crochet and Yarnbomb to my hearts content.

Needless to say, that is not the case.
So stay tuned yarn fans.
I shall hopefully have something more important up soon.
In the meantime, so to etsy and check out the bearded beany. I don't know why, but I find this vastly entertaining. I think I may have to get one.

Day out with friends

Hi!

This is Dave. Dave really approves of my yarn bombing. I should tell him that I'll teach him crochet and he can do it with me.

This Victoria day (yesterday) I decided to get some sunshine and hang out in some local parks with my friends. Now an oppurtunity like this for tagging cannot be passed up, so I threw some tags in my bag and away we went.

Before me and my other buddy met up with Dave, I decided to try my hand at those fence hearts some taggers have done.

For my first try, I like to think I did pretty good. More of them all over would have been cool, but of course my friends showed up right as I was doing it, so some of the mystery was lost.

Then we all went for an epic walk. We crashed on this bench and watched all the dogs go by. As we rested, I threw on this little tag that I made while waiting on my gf to get out of the book fair last week.

I like it. It's brightly colored. I was just goofing off with trying different patterns of color.
Next stop, different patterns of pattern!

Gazebo Revisited

When the tag covering the metal empty power box at the Gazebo went away, a lot of my friends were sad. We all liked it's bright colors and I think Dave was really glad to help me put it up.
Well, I was determined to replace it, but perhaps with something more sturdy and something that while beautiful, would blend in like the one that is still on the lamp post down by the Gazebo.
Then I saw this helpful video posted on Where the Woolly Things Are about making flowers. I decided that it would be perfect for a tag in the garden to have flowers on it (you can't really see all the flowers and flowering plants surrounding the Gazebo, but they're there!)

Tada!
I think it looks really pretty! And blends in really well!

Here's a close up look at the flowers. I think the camera made the yarn look a lot bluer than it really was. It is really kinda bluey green, but not that blue.

Here's how I left it at the Gazebo. I hope this one stays there a good long while.

A gift for a friend

So, I have these two good friends. They helped me out when things really sucked for me, when I didn't have a place to live.

Anyways, I decided that I would do something nice for them. See, they bought a new house and now it is looking pretty fab, because they have spent the last 6 months fixing it up. One of my friends showed me her garden out front, which included a little gnome and his acompanying toadstool. I was inspired to add to her little garden.

Tada! I saw someone do rocks for a beach and got inspired to do my own rocks. Once I did them though, I wasn't sure what to do with them.

I think they make a perfect addiction here though. I didn't tell my friend that I tagged her garden though. I am just waiting to see if she see's they and realizes it was me or not.

You can see the gnome in this one... not really the toadstool, but the gnome. And the birdbath.

My friends garden is really quite pretty.

I can't wait to make more of these rocks. Perhaps I should do a series of them where I leave knitted (ok, crocheted) rocks in random places. That sounds like fun.

Yes yes, you have seen this one before.

Funny story.

So obviously, I put this one up at least a month back. And I never went back to check on it. My gf said it wasn't there anymore when she went by a while afterwards.

So I was wandering around over there the other day, noticed it wasn't there, but that's when I noticed it was on the ground. Someone had just cut what was attaching it to the pole, but not the actual tag itself.

Of course, I grabbed it and simply reattached it. It was a little dirty from being in the leaves and bramble and such, but it still looks great. I dusted it off a bit before reattaching it.

Hopefully it stays up there a bit longer, but I am sure I can play this game with whoever as long as they want to play.

I realize that I have put up entirely too many text based posts lately. I apoligize, and do promise that I have pictures to put up very very soon! I was editting them last night even. But I have a cold, so I have been less than enthused about.. well everything really.
Anyways, on to business.
I stubbled across the most awesome site the other day. It's like the Facebook of the yarn community.
.. I shouldn't say that... Facebook is terrible.

Out and about: Fan ta sea isle Rainbow!

Early on after moving to victoria, I set out to see the sites. One of the first sites I saw was Rico`s Benches by the bay, or also know as Fan Ta Sea Isle.

See the Rainbow tag??

I added that to Rico`s little project.

The sad part is though that the city of Victoria wants to build a yacht marina right where this landmark of woodcarving (for the public I might add) is presently located. And they don`t care that this guys has been building this thing for years, or that people recognize it as a landmark.

Not to mention it is going to make the entire area look gross and commerical, full of boats and cars instead of lush greenery and a wonderful view of the ocean and Olympic mountain range.

Either way, I decided to add my piece to a wonderfully bright example of urban art.

Check out some of the things carved and colored in the wood.

Not to mention the graffitti writing as well. I think it adds color to the over all atmosphere. Better for Rico's whole piece than the drab stones of the walkway.

Over all, I am really really happy with this piece. It is probably the largest to date and it is certianly one of the most colorful. I am almost out of my rainbow yarn (but I got tons of other colors at the thrift store the other day so look forward to more colorful tags in the future) but I have plans for at least two more rainbow ones.Enjoy!

Out and about: Controversy over nudity

So as my gf and I were walking around town today, I was rather hellbent on doing a statue tag. I'd seen so many on the interwebs that I wanted one too.
Oh sure, there were perhaps better statues in town. My gf even suggested as much. But I really wanted to do one on these statues.

See, these statues were some of the first things I ever saw when I moved to victoria. So in a strange way, I felt as if I was honoring them.

As a funny, ironic/practical joke type tag, I decided that this lovely nude statue required a tube top.

I think it looks quite fetching on her.

Don't you agree?

I was a little sad that I didn't have anything to give her as a bottom. And I didn't have enough yarn with me to whip something up even.

But I think it turned out rather well. Another of my lovely rainbow tags.

Out and about: Anarchy in the trees!!

So, my gf prompted me to do some more rebelous pieces. More edgy and provocative.
I decided nothing said edgy like pink!

Introducing my anarchy piece, in pink! I actually have another anarchy one as well, but it isn't as bold and, well neon.

I put this one in some trees, just off a walking trail in victoria's lovely inner harbour. I really like how bright the pink stands out. And I really enjoyed doing the background as well. The yarn was one that changes colors as you go through it. I quite like how it turned out.

Out and about: Bench in Bastion square

So me and my gf ended up going for a walk about town today.
I had a new idea for a project and needed to get some things for it. We went down by the water in the inner harbor and I got to to do some really awesome tags.

The first one I did was just a really tiny tag.

It was actually the second tag I ever created; first one with two colors of yarn in it even.

But I just hadn't put it up anywhere.

So I put it on this bench, thinking that the area definatly needed some cheering up.

Simple, little, but ever so sweet.

Gazebo

Some friends of mine and myself have a tendency to hang out at this Gazebo on campus.

I have wanted to do tags in this area for quite some time, but I haven't been sure of what, and where.

At some point, I want to do a tag for an actually pillar of the Gazebo itself (I took the measurements today, so I can work on that while school is out), but in the mean time, I have had this small little tag that I did for my trip to Edmonton that I never did use.

Well today it got used!

I decided it blended nicely to the lamp post.

I put it at such a height that it was in the bush, but not over taken by it either. Visible and yet invisible.

Like a ninja.

It looks really high up, but the picture is taken from some stairs and the lamp isn't that big. Maybe 8 feet high total. In this pic, you can also see just the edge of the roof of our Gazebo.

Also, there has been this metal box sticking out of the greenery on campus by the Gazebo since I have been there. Probably longer than that too. It looks like it used to be a power box, or a converter for flood lights or something. Who knows.

Anyway, it was ugly, this metal thing just sticking out.

So I graffitti'ed it! Now it is covered in rainbow joy!

My friend Dave helped me put it up. Note the wrapped it in yarn.

We couldn't really come up with a clever way to put it up on short notice. He had to help me because the box was at least a good couple of inches out if my complete reach and he is much taller than me. I could grab it, but not well enough to get the piece on better than you see in the picture.

All in all, I think I really cheered up our hang out spot.

Hopefully campus security doesn't just take them all down before we go back next week.

Show your colors!

I did this lovely rainbow piece so that it could be seen from the window of my school's Pride lounge.

When the new Pride director was nominated ( my friend) we decided to clean up the lounge, as the old director was a bit of a tool and got nothing done.

Now, it looks amazing in there!

... Just not by the window apparently.

While we were cleaning, we came upon some old arts and crafts supplies. There ended up being this whole bag of rainbow yarn in there! I was super excited and my friend let me have it for helping to clean up.

So in honour of that, I did this wonderful little piece that you can see from the window.

Ok, so I have no idea why I am so interested in this pole by the bus stop piece, but here is an update on it's status. As you can see, it is still there!

Even if it has fallen down.

But again I am suprised that all the local high school students haven't done something to it.

Either way, it makes me smile to see it there when I go by.

On a side note: The multicolor one on the tree is still up too!

Yarn Bombing article!

So around the beginning of the month, I replied to a post done by a one Sandie Roach about an article she was writing about Yarn bombing. She emailed me a short questionare, and I filled it out delightedly.
Within the week, she replied, saying that she apreciated my reply. I continued crochetting, and then today, I get an email from her with the link to the feature.
In which I am quoted! Yay!
I gotta say, this made me feel like a million bucks (along with the free yarn I got today for helping to clean up with some friends)!
